Whether you’re new to devotions or you want to change up your normal routine, a faith app can introduce structure and a fresh perspective to your quiet time.
As you’re choosing a faith app, it’s helpful to keep a few things in mind. You want to make sure the app you choose is easy to use. Look for one that’s easy to navigate and has clear, readable text. Many options have accessibility features, such as adjustable font sizes, the ability to change the contrast settings and even audio options.
To avoid the need for multiple apps, you may want to look for one that has a variety of content, including a few Bible versions to choose from, devotionals and guided prayers. It’s also helpful to choose one that allows you to sync with other users if you want to use the app in a small group setting.
We’ve found seven easy-to-use faith apps for you to explore. Each app shines in a different area, so we’ve divided them into three categories: Bible reading, devotionals and prayer and reflection.
The YouVersion Bible app, which you can download for free to your iOS or Android device, features over 3,500 Bible versions. Read or listen at your own pace, or subscribe to Plans and get a daily scripture along with a relevant devotional, audio selection or video. The app also helps you keep track of upcoming events at Kansas City churches.
Available from the Google Play store, this free app gives you daily Bible verses and short devotionals. You’ll receive a morning and evening reading, along with interactive trivia, scripture memorization prompts and Bible humor.
Our Daily Bread is a popular devotional read by millions around the world, and it’s now available on your mobile device. This app has a built-in audio player that lets you listen to your daily scripture reading and devotional. You can bookmark your favorite readings for later reference, as well as discuss that day’s scripture and devotional with other readers through the public comments feature.
iDisciple features recorded sermons, daily devotionals, Growth Plans and music from hundreds of Christian ministries, leaders and artists. This includes content from Joyce Meyer, Andy Stanley, Ravi Zacharias and Anne Graham Lotz. The free plan gives you three pieces of content every day, and you can upgrade to the paid subscription for unlimited access.
The free mobile app provides a daily devotional with a five-step format: pause, listen, think, pray and go. Every week has a theme, with readings from ministers, missionaries and leaders. The app also features instrumental music to help set the tone for your devotional time.
Lectio 365 is a free app that helps you pray through the Bible. It includes three short prayer times each day, providing morning, midday and evening prayers in keeping with Jewish tradition. Prayers are relevant to current events as well as Biblical themes. The app tracks important events on the church calendar and provides information on heroes of the faith on Feast Days.
For those who follow the Catholic tradition, Hallow features guided meditations and sleep stories. It includes over 5,000 sessions ranging from 5 minutes to an hour, including Bible stories and daily prayers.
Technology offers a modern, enjoyable way to structure your quiet time, but trying something new can feel intimidating at first. To avoid overwhelm, pick just one or two apps to explore. Once you’ve become familiar with the available features and settings, you can gradually incorporate them into your daily devotions.
Reading small print on a mobile device can be challenging, so feel free to adjust the text size, contrast and brightness settings until you can read comfortably. You can also avoid eyestrain by taking advantage of audio features.
As with any habit, the best way to incorporate faith apps is to make them part of your daily routine. If you’re new to daily devotions, choose a quiet time and space where you can focus on daily readings and prayer. You might also consider getting others involved by sharing the apps with them and going through daily devotions together.
